one dictator left
Suppose there was just one dictator left in the world.
Would we still accept dictatorship into the United Nations?
Or would we get serious about democracy and start practicing it in our foreign policy. Stop pretending that dictators are legitimate representives of people.

Occupy Wallstreet?
OK, this is getting silly. Why would we want to occupy wallstreet? Our problems are a result of the government we chose, not the wallstreet we didn't.

China
I look forward to the day when the Chinese people become citizens of the world. But before that can happen they must first become citizens of their own nation. My definition of citizen involves participation in your government, the democratic process. If you're not free, you're a captive. You're being denied the most basic democratic freedoms that the rest of the world enjoys. It's not that China isn't a great nation, it's whether China is achieving it's full potential as a citizen of the world.

Prepare for World Peace
World peace is now inevitable. It becomes technologically possible because the internet empowers the masses. And more power to the people means less power to the dictators. And ultimately more democracies. And democracies have a tendancy not to attack other democracies. Especially when the people have something to say about it. Which they increasingly do. Think about it...who really wants to go to war?

United Democratic Nations - justification
Without human rights, you cannot have world peace.
Without democracy, you cannot have human rights.
And if our ambasadors leave their democratic principles at the UN door, we ultimately work against the cause of democracy, not for it.

Democracy Quotes
I thought I'd share a few of my favorite quotes on democracy...
"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."
-- Sir Winston Churchill, November 11, 1947
“Democracy is a device that insures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.”
-- George Bernard Shaw
“Democracy is the only system that persists in asking the powers that be whether they are the powers that ought to be.”
-- Sydney J. Harris
“All the ills of democracy can be cured by more democracy.”
-- Alfred E. Smith
And one funny one...
“Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.”
-- Anonymous
Here's my own attempt at defining democracy...
Democracy is the assumption that empowerment means less terrorists in the world. Dictatorship is the assumption that absolute power does not corrupt absolutely.
How do you define democracy?
